The June 24, 2005 Evening Standard reported that guests paid 1,000 pounds each to attend last night's White Tie and Tiara ball.
This included a six-course dinner and cocktails made from African fruits, a performance from Elton and an opportunity to get up close to some zebras, roaming the grounds.
Unfortunately, the latter did not apply to the host. Before the fund raiser, party-goers were asked not to approach Elton.
One called the rule ''absurd'' and compared it to ''some tinpot dictator.''
