EJW readers may recall a February 18 auction--the first ever held by a new organisation founded by Seattle Mariners pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen.

According to the King County Journal,  they ''pitched a real winner'' by raising $1.2 million  to benefit distressed youngsters and their families.

Known as the Dream Catchers Auction, the event was staged simultaneously  in Seattle, Washington, Palm Springs, California, and Sun Valley, Idaho, offering 21 ``dream'' dates or encounters with celebrities--including the Rocket Man.

Raising the biggest bucks were a Bhutan Culinary Adventure sponsored by Ultimate Journeys, which sold for $34,000; a meeting with the Dalai Lama sponsored by Pogo Linux, $32,000; tickets to the EJAF Oscar soiree sponsored by Jackie and Skip Kotkins, $25,000; and a Dale Chihuly glass work plus dinner party for 50 at his boathouse, $21,000.

The Moyers' foundation, which also received $700,000 in donations, will use the money to help create and endow two new Camp Erins -- bereavement camps for children ages 6 to 17, among other projects.
