The Oracle Corporation has managed to persuade Elton to perform at OpenWorld in October.
Judy Sim, senior vice president of worldwide marketing and customer programs, said, "He had a couple of other engagements in the U.S. around the same time, and when those other plans fell through we were worried he would not make himself available," she said. "But last month he confirmed."
Sim said he's bringing a red piano for the occasion. Last year, Oracle hosted 34,000 at the event. The forecast for this year is 41,000.
"He's making a special trip for Oracle," Sim said. "He stands for innovation and goodwill, and this is the image we want to portray at Oracle."
OpenWorld will be held from October 22-26 at San Francisco's Moscone Center; Elton's show--billed as an ''Appreciation Event,'' will be at the historic Cow Palace on Tuesday, October 24.
