Last night, at New York's Roosevelt Hotel, Elton received Billboard's Legend of Live honour, and was congratulated by Bill Clinton via video. The former president also recognised Music Rising, the instrument replacement fund for Gulf Coast musicians which received Billboard's Humanitarian Award.
Live Nation (formerly Clear Channel Entertainment) was named top promoter and Creative Artists Agency was voted best agency.
Other victors included the Rolling Stones' Bigger Bang tour, considered #1 for attracting almost two million attendees from the beginning of December 2005 through the end of September 2006, and Madonna, earning the top boxscore award for her eight-sellout stand at London's Wembley Arena on her Confessions tour. Another venue, one of Elton's favourites, got the nod for top arena--Manhattan's Madison Square Garden.
There were also two new honours: top comedy tour went to Larry the Cable Guy, while Cirque du Soleil's Delirium won for creative content.
