On February 17, the WIN Awards, produced by the Women's Image Network, will be distributed at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.
Coordinator Joy Tuttle tells EJW:
''We have invited Sir Elton, but he has not yet confirmed his attendance (as he's on tour, as you know and would squeeze this night into his schedule for his buddy Cat Stevens, our musical guest).''
She says tickets aren't open to the public, but thinks it would be worth reconsidering the policy if Elton accepts the invitation to be a guest host.
Males as well as females receive tributes, since, Joy says, ''we're interested in the 'images' of women, and men still create the majority of all media.''
This year's Living Legend Honoree is Cloris Leachman.
The accolades, started in 1993, ''honour those in the media who create dimensional female characters in film, television and video games,'' Tuttle explains. They cite ''outstanding individuals who promote gender parity through their creativity and leadership which levels the playing for all women. We reach the broadest possible audience to shape public opinion by honoring outstanding film, television and interactive industry writers, producers, directors, actors executives whose tenacity and creativity enable accurate, powerful images of women.''
