Elton recently spoke with HitFix.com about writing for Gnomeo and Juliet.

While he and Bernie Taupin composed several songs, only two, Hello, Hello, and Love Builds a Garden, ended up in the animated flick.

It changes so much from the very first concept to the finished result, Elton points out. Among the songs left out was The Sky Is Falling, featuring Lily Allen.

Some of the songs were really great, but they just didnt fit. Three or four bit the dust and thats the way, unfortunately, it happens.

Elton originally recorded Hello, Hello on his own, which worked fine. However, when he realised where it would play in the movie, the rocker says he felt It really needed a female voice, so I asked Lady Gaga and she said absolutely. It fits so much better with the two of us singing because Juliet has a voice now and Gnomeo has a voice now. That just really happened by accident and kismet.  Their touring schedules prevented the two from recording together: Gaga recorded her part in Norway.

As for Love Builds a Garden, it was Elton's idea to use the old photographs and stuff in the montage.

He says the number reminds him of something that Harry Nilsson might have written and that was the template when he got the lyric.

Elton was originally slated to reunite with The Lion King lyricist Tim Rice for Gnomeo and Juliet, but Disneys then studio head Dick Cook decided to make the movie a vehicle for Johns catalog so Taupin was enlisted instead.
