At the Golden Globes' Red Carpet Sunday (where Elton and his partner are seen in the preceding photo), the Rocket Man suggested that Madonna's W.E. tune had no chance of winning the Best Original Song category. Asked for her reaction, the 53-year-old inquired, ''Was he wearing his green dress?''
However, the Material Girl did end up with the honour, beating the piano player, who been nominated for Hello, Hello, from Gnomeo & Juliet.
While Madonna publicly laughed it off, Elton looked upset while she was onstage and his partner lated posted a furious note on Facebook.
David Furnish wrote: ''Madonna. Best Song? F--- off!'' He also considered the singer's acceptance speech to be self-indulgent.
Elton was especially angry his colleague admitted that the song was very much an afterthought, added only after the movie was basically finished.
But backstage, Madonna was hopeful Elton wouldn't take her victory personally.
''I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years,'' she quipped. ''He's been known to get mad at me so I don't know. He's brilliant and I adore him so he'll win another award. I don't feel bad!''
The two entertainers have had their differences before, as when Elton complained a few years ago, that Madonna was a lip-syncher.
