For over two decades, superstars from TV, film, music and sports have joined together to show support for the men and women who serve their community. On April 27, they will come together again to help raise funds for the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation at the historic Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills.
The Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation's Celebrity Poker Tournament & Red Carpet Party will be hosted by James Gandolfini, and those attending are to include AJ Mclean, Rocky Carroll, Lou Diamond Phillips, Carl Weathers, and Joe Manganiello.
Proceeds from this event benefit officers and their immediate family members, who have experienced unforeseen catastrophic circumstances, including death, illness and injury. The Memorial Foundation is the cornerstone of the LAPD employee wellness program and has raised over $14.5 million without any direct taxpayer money.
Elton, Jack Nicholson, Donald Trump, Paula Abdul, James Woods, Mark Wahlberg and Luke Wilson are a few of the higher-profile supporters.
The former's involvement began several years ago. He became aware of the Memorial Foundation due to a tragedy which occurred to the family of one of his security personnel, an off duty Los Angeles police officer. Elton was impressed with how the organisation financially assisted, so has since become one of the Memorial Foundation's largest individual sponsors, having donated in excess of $100,000.
There's a photo of Elton, seen with Alan Atkins, Memorial Foundation Executive Director, presenting the songwriter with a plaque of recognition for his continued support of the foundation and members of the LAPD at
