Caleb Flood-Goldstick took up piano when he was five and expanded his musical repertoire to other instruments, with guitar serving as his mainstay. He started performing at local shows and festivals several years ago, posting content on YouTube and Facebook to build an international audience.
Flood-Goldstick has since recorded songs in Los Angeles with a producer and songwriter who has worked with established performers such as the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. That collaboration with PJ Bianco yielded Calebs first album on iTunes, released in January.
Rather than writing mindless songs, hes writing songs of encouragement to motivate other kids, Bianco told the Journal News as he took a break from a recording session. Hes such a prolific little songwriter. Whenever I hang out with him, I feel like Im hanging out with a 30-year-old.
More recently, the teenager connected with representatives from Eltons company, Rocket Music Management.
Elton John is my favourite artist of all time and one of my biggest inspirations, said Caleb, who has yet to meet the luminary. Just to be working with people who are very, very directly related to such a huge influence in my music and career that is so cool.
Jon Howard, who oversees the day-to-day management responsibilities for Elton, said Rocket Music and Caleb are in the early stages of a developmental deal, pairing the prodigy with music publishers and songwriters, with the possibility of a full contract down the road.
Elton has built this company on finding young talent and developing them and helping them realise their dreams, Howard said. Caleb doesnt want to do the teen thing, which puts him at a disadvantage. Someone of his value needs to be an authentic singer-songwriter. Thats the type of artist we sign and I see something special in what hes trying to do.
