Elton has been added to a host of July gigs in Merseyside. The Summer Pops Festival will also feature Paul Simon, Bryan Ferry, Burt Bacharach, Van Morrison, Culture Club, UB40, Tony Bennett, David Cassidy and BB King.
Elton will play Liverpool's Big Top venue on the King's Dock waterfront on July 9, 2002.
Mike Storey, leader of Liverpool City Council said: "Its an incredible coup for the city to get Sir Elton John here twice in just two years. I'm particularly pleased that we've managed to make ticket prices cheaper than they were two years ago, in some cases by as much as £10.
"We could probably have doubled prices and it would still have been a sell out. However, we have chosen to reduce the cost and tickets will be within the price range of many more people now. Many people are planning to see several shows because the variety of artists who will be here in Liverpool is so great. The Summer Pops are bringing big names closer to people - both financially and physically - and the Big Top guarantees everyone a close up view. To be able to see legends like Elton John in such an intimate venue is a unique experience.
Summer Pops promoter Chas Cole said: "Elton John's appearance at the Big Top in 2000 was a huge spur to the event and brought the Summer Pops a national audience for the first time. It's brilliant that he has agreed to return, it is yet another massive endorsement for us."
