Pop Star Regrets Not Being a Dad Earlier

Written by Chief Editor.

Despite considering himself too old for parenthood in his 40s, Sir Elton, 66, and partner David Furnish, 50, now have sons Zachary, three, and Elijah, six months.

But he has admitted that his joy at being a hands-on parent will be short lived because they embarked upon a family so late in life.

Receiving the first Brits Icon Award for his contribution to music, Elton was reminded of an interview he gave when he was 40 when he said that he was too old to become a father as he didn’t want to be in his 70s when they his children were teenagers.

The singer replied: “Well, I won’t be 70 years old with a teenager – I will be 80. By the time they are 15, I will be on a Stannah stairlift.

“I wish I had made that decision to be a father 20 years earlier because I am no spring chicken.”
