JUST BREAKING: Elton is Expected to Appear at RAM Next Month

Written by Chief Editor.

Elton recently played the iTunes Festival, and the evening included input from students from the RAM’s musical theatre department as well as members of Total Brass and Two Cellos.

As noted by the school's blog, Elton’s support of Royal Academy of Music pupils goes much further than this.

For many years now, he has nurtured the latest generation of students through his Elton John Scholarship Fund. This isn’t just a case of signing a cheque – Elton takes an active interest in how ‘his’ students are getting on. For instance, Luka Sulic of the Two Cellos was an Elton John Scholar at the Academy, for example. Incidentally, the former Reg Dwight has been involved in Luka’s career soon after he saw the Two CellosYouTube hit of Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal. It led to the two instrumentalists being asked to open for many of Elton's concerts.

Moreover, the Academy has expressed gratitude to the piano player for his generous support of their spectacular new 42-stop, three-manual symphonic organ, which was installed this summer in the Duke’s Hall.

The Organ Department is to present a free preview concert on the Academy’s new 42-stop, three-manual symphonic organ, built by Orgelbau Kuhn of Switzerland. The show, beginning at 6 p.m. on October 7, will feature Academy organists performing solo works including music by JS Bach, Couperin, Duruflé and Lionel Rogg.

The grand opening celebrations with Sir Elton will take place later in the month.
