Abramovic's Support For The EJAF

Written by Chief Editor.

UNTITLED, the Art Basel in Miami Beach satellite fair which made its debut last December on the beach, has announced the lineup of galleries that will be showing their wares this year. 94 galleries have been signed, mostly from North America, with a smattering of outliers from Europe and South America. The fair, which runs December 4-8 in its Miami Beach tent at Ocean Drive and 12th Street, will have a VIP preview on December 2 from 7-9 p.m. hosted by Marina Abramovic and benefiting her forthcoming Marina Abramovic Institute and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. It's been rumoured that Lady Gaga is to attend.

EJW readers may recall that Marina donated one of her  works to be auctioned by Sotheby's to benefit the EJAF earlier this month.

William Eggleston, Inka Essenhigh, Theaster Gates, Wade Guyton, Louise Lawler, Raymond Pettibon, and Ai Weiwei also contributed pieces for Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Day Sale.

Elton responded with the following statement:

“All of us at the Elton John AIDS Foundation are deeply grateful to Sotheby’s and to all of the wonderful artists, dealers, and galleries that have partnered with us on this project for the last three years. The funds raised from the special charity lots at the sale will support our continuing efforts to achieve an AIDS- free generation by confronting stigma and discrimination and helping people to access the prevention, treatment and care services they need. This sale truly is art supporting life, and I can’t think of a higher purpose for art than that.”
