64 Years On: Happy Birthday to Elton's Longtime Songwriting Partner

Written by Chief Editor.

Today is Bernie Taupin's birthday, and EJW wishes him a very happy one. Meanwhile, we have some news about what the songwriter has been up to lately. . . .
As noted previously, Bernie Taupin is among the 14 notables taking part in an artistic extravaganza called Art in a Box. Having received a personally engraved art box – containing paints, an easel and canvases – the participants were each invited to paint one or more pictures inspired by the theme 'Upbeat.' Each piece of art measures 8″ X 8″, and is individually signed and framed. Each artwork will be issued with a certificate of authenticity.
The Art in a Box exhibition is currently on at London’s Store Street Gallery – just off Tottenham Court Road. It runs through tomorrow.
The advance auction is open now at Eazl.co.uk. Art in a Box will conclude with a dinner and live auction in London on Friday, June 20. Attendance is by invitation only, but you can register your interest in being there by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. All of the money raised from Art in a Box will go directly to Upbeat Music & Mental Health Limited. This is a Camden-based charity which organises extensive musical workshops, open mic evenings and live events for those suffering from mental health issues.

Incidentally, a couple of months ago, Elton's lyricist visited another prominent artist's show.

Terry O’Neill had an exhibition of Oscar winners at L.A.'s Mouche gallery.
The owner of Mouche, Keiko Noah, told this Web site that besides photographing Elton, Terry has worked with Bernie numerous times over the years.
''They are good friends. And we have had the art of Bernie Taupin at different times in the gallery. The pieces are for sale via our Web site.
''However - we have not done a show with Bernie's work - yet.''
There's a video of O'Neill at the gallery, with Bernie making an appearance towards the end, at
