Six months into 2014, Pollstar has put together a compilation of the top 100 North American tours.
George Strait comes out on top, with his Cowboy Rides Away tour grossing $61.8 million. Billy Joel is second, followed by Cher.
The top 10 was rounded out by Justin Timberlake; the joint tour of Paul Simon and Sting; Elton in 6th place, Celine Dion; Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band; Cirque du Soleil; and Bruno Mars.
According to Pollstar, this annual midyear ranking is based on North American shows played between January 1 and June 30, 2014. All ticket sales are calculated in U.S. dollars and based on a combination of reported information and Pollstar's own research. Music festival performances are not included in the totals.
But not all tours are equal when studying box office results. Some acts play more shows while others play far fewer gigs but charge more money for tickets.
The music publication has also released their worldwide mid-year Top 100. In this case, One Direction is #1, while George Strait and Elton are lower down, in the 6th and 13th spots, respectively.
