A new book by Paul Flynn, Good As You: From Prejudice to Pride - 30 Years of Gay Britain, contains a look at Elton and David Furnish's relationship as well as candid interviews with Holly Johnson, Will Young, Kylie Minogue, and Lord Chris Smith.
Flynn’s book claims to be “the definitive pop-cultural history of British gay men.”
The author, an entertainment journalist, pins the country’s slow acceptance of homosexuality to his own maturing as a gay man, starting as a teenager in 1980s Manchester and leading up to the present day.
A similar subject is explored tonight on Sky Arts, which Elton himself has contributed to.
The documentary is called 50 Years Legal, showcasing leading activists and commentators as they explore the changes that have taken place since homosexuality was decriminalised in the UK in 1967, as well as the influence of gay culture on society.
