Today the Evening Standard is launching an appeal to raise vital funds to tackle the AIDS epidemic and dramatically boost the number of people being tested for HIV. Together with Elton's AIDS charity, they will shine a spotlight on London and five other cities around the world which are striving to crack down on the virus and create an AIDS-free future.
In the coming weeks, medical advances which have transformed the lives of those living with HIV will be highlights.
The newspaper will also show that in London — and in their appeal cities of Delhi in India, Nairobi in Kenya, Maputo in Mozambique, Kiev in Ukraine, and Atlanta in the USA — much more must be done.
The Elton John AIDS Foundation says they will be raising awareness and funding for HIV testing and treatment through the end of January. Every gift will be doubled by the UK Government up to £2m.
