''Lion King'' Among Shows Raising Funds For Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS

Written by Chief Editor.

Theatre lobbies across the country are being filled with casts, crew members and volunteers fundraising with iconic red buckets in hand, culminating in the 33rd Annual Easter Bonnet Competition.

In exchange for a Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS donation, audiences at many Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring shows over the next several weeks can receive autographed posters, Playbills and other memorabilia or one-of-a-kind experiences, including backstage tours and meet-and-greets.

Among the Broadway and Off-Broadway productions participating in this spring’s appeals are: The Lion King; Aladdin; Jersey Boys; King Kong; Chicago; The Cher Show; Hamilton; and Pretty Woman.

Last year, 62 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national tours raised $5.7 million during the Easter Bonnet Competition fundraising.

This culminates in a two-day event, featuring performances from Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies. The Monday, April 22, performance will be at 4:30 pm and the Tuesday, April 23 performance will be at 2 p.m., at New York's Minskoff Theatre.
