Famed Lyricist Turns 69 As New Art Show is Announced

Written by Chief Editor.

Today is Bernie Taupin's 69th birthday, and Eltonjohnworld.com hopes it's a splendid one.

At the same time, we'd like to announce a new Taupin exhibit.

From June 7 through June 30, Galerie Michael, on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, will feature twenty never-before-seen large-scale 3-D assemblage artworks on canvas, panels, wood and striking life-size sculptures made of barbed wire, padlocks, twine, fabric and plastic. This thought-provoking showcase represents a top museum-quality art exhibition in the United States that has been years in the making.

In addition, Bernie Taupin: The Arist, The Raconteur & His Blowtorch will be supported by archival material from the artist's personal collection, including sketches and private photos of the solitary artist at work in his studio in Santa Barbara County, California. It will provide a glimpse into the innovative process and artistic mind of the lyricist as he unleashes his creativity into visual art.

Bernie, who has been creating visual art from the age of 17, says: ''The imagination is the most powerful tool artists possess, enabling us to conjure up beautiful distractions for the eyes and ears. My dimensional work is simply the visual extension of what I have spent my life creating through words. Music and art are an inevitable collision. I personally gravitated from one to the other because I desired to create on a different topic level, and simply because visceral visual art exerts an almost narcotic drive in me.''
