Tony Bennett turned 94 yesterday, and Elton sent him a video message.
He noted that ''the best is yet to come'' is a ''pretty good theme'' nowadays.
''I'm hoping that next year things will completely turn around and people like you and I can go back to work and entertain people and spread love and joy throughout the world, which it desperately needs in this moment. Meanwhile, I send you all my love and thank you for spreading so much joy throughout my lifetime. You're an amazing man, an amazing artist and someone we should all look up to.''
Billy Joel thanked Tony for ''bringing the songs I write to such glorious life.'' Gloria Estefan wished him ''good health, love and happiness'' and Elvis Costello wrote, ''You have made the world a better place.''
Bono sent an abstract sketch of the showbiz veteran, while Stevie Wonder and Sting took two of Tony's tunes and made them their own to pay tribute. Also weighing in was Lady Gaga, who said she was celebrating Bennett from home, but wished they were ''Cheek to Cheek,'' a reference to their 2014 collaborative jazz album.
