Elton recently told BBC Radio 6 Music how he feels about today's pop music.
He told Matt Everitt: ''You look at most of the records in the charts--they're not real songs. They're bits and pieces and it's nice to hear someone write a proper song.''
He continued: ''I like people who write songs. And there's plenty of people that do but a lot of them don't played on the radio because they're too sophisticated and we get songs made by a computer all the time and I'm not interested in that.''
Father John Misty, who was a guest on Rocket Hour in 2017, is one of the artists he admires.
He ''reminds me a little of me, the way he writes songs.''
Elton also praised Conan Gray, calling him ''the only person in the American Spotify Top 50 to actually write the song without anybody else.'' He was referring to Heather, a track currently at #12 on the US Top 50 Spotify chart.
Another interview Elton recently did was with Delilah Rene.
Delilah, who has a podcast called 'LOVE SOMEONE with Delilah,'' says she has been a longtime fan who had the chance to interview him once or twice, but ''never did I have a sense that I really knew the man behind the giant sequinned sunglasses until I watched the biopic, Rocketman!
''On this episode of LOVE SOMEONE with Delilah, Elton and I have an absolutely lovely conversation about the movie, and how closely it resembles his life, his music--old and new--his past addictions and current sobriety, the changes of perspective and motivations that children bring, and of course, his Farewell Concert Tour. What an incredible man!
''Join us, and listen for this gem, 'The philosphy of getting sober is helping others.' ''
