August 25th marked 50 years since Elton first played the States.
Lots of luminaries caught the performance at the Troubadour Club in Los Angeles. They included Quincy Jones, Peggy Lipton, Leon Russell, Linda Ronstadt, Mike Love, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Don Henley.
It has also been half a century since the Rocket Man's eponymous album was released. To mark the occasion, on Saturday, a deluxe gatefold double LP was made available to fans.
This Record Store Day exclusive celebrated the album's 50th anniversary. Pressed on transparent purple vinyl, the first disc features the 2016 remaster of the original recording; the second contains a selection of bonus tracks offs the 2008 CD Deluxe Edition, not released on vinyl, as well as two previously unreleased demos of Border Song and Bad Side of the Moon.
And on the 30th of October, the original Elton John album will also be released (with download code) as a limited-edition gatefold 1LP gold 180 gram vinyl edition.
