BMI Extends Agreements With Elton And Ellie While Also Enjoying Record Revenues

Written by Chief Editor.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, BMI closed its fiscal year, which ended June 30, with record revenue and royalty distributions. The music rights organisation also extended agreements with Elton, Ellie Goulding, Willie Nelson, and other entertainers.

What's more, BMI saw its affiliate membership increase by almost ten percent this year, with nearly 100,000 new songwriters, composers and publishers coming on board. Included among the latest signings are H.E.R., who appeared on a recent edition of Elton's Rocket Hour, Chance the Rapper, and Dave Mustaine.

Revenue from digital sources represented 32% of BMI's domestic total with $304 million, an increase of 16%, compared. This is the first time the digital category eclipsed all others.

Many years earlier, the Broadcast Music, Inc. Citation of Achievement was presented to Elton's publishing company at the time, Dick James Music, Inc. The BMI awards were given to artists in recognition of the amount of radio play they received in a given year. In this case, the 1972 Citation of Achievement was to honour the single, Honky Cat.
