UK Radio Plans Special Interviews For ''John Lennon at 80''

Written by Chief Editor.

John Lennon would have turned 80 years old on October 9. To mark the occasion, Radio 2 will air an exclusive, during which Sean Ono Lennon interviews Julian Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Elton.

The two-part documentary will be broadcast on Saturday, the third of October, and Sunday, the fourth, from 9-10 p.m. Each of Sean's conversations will be available to listen to in full on BBC Sounds afterwards.

During Elton's chat, he recalls cycling about 8 miles to buy a copy of the 'Sergeant Pepper' album. He also says that upon meeting the former Beatle, he felt ''like I'd known him all my life and that's the biggest compliment I can pay him.'' And he discusses their 1974 gig at New York's Madison Square Garden. This became Lennon's last appearance in concert, but it was also where he was reunited with Yoko Ono after a period of separation. Soon after, she was pregnant with Sean, and Elton was named his godfather.
