On Thursday, former batsman Dean Jones passed away in Mumbai after suffering a heart attack in a hotel. He was part of the commentary panel for the Indian Premier League in 2020. Erstwhile bowler Brett Lee, who later called him ''an absolute legend,'' was in the same hotel and tried to revive the 59-year-old.
On Instagram, Elton posted a picture of Dean and Brett. He wrote:
''Only last week I was sent this lovely photo of Dean Jones and Brett Lee in Mumbai. Now Dean has gone. Life is unfair. He was a great cricketer and a wonderful father.''
Australia's prime minister, Scott Morrison, was also touched.
He wrote that Lee was ''a true entertainer at the crease, whose flair with the bat and electric running between the wickets changed the game forever. A genuine good guy and a huge loss.''
Jones, who worked as a coach and commentator after retiring, was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame last year. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
