Influential Editor Has Passed Away

A woman who attended the 2004 White Tie & Tiara Ball has died.

Isabella Blow, who was 48, was a British fashion editor.

No cause of death was given, but she was in hospital.

Blow was credited for discovering designers like Alexander McQueen and John Galliano as well as models, including Sophie Dahl. And she was known for promoting couture milliners such as Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones.

However, she was prone to depression, even suggesting that a recent fall resulted from a purposeful leap off an overpass.

Isabella was married twice. Her first marriage ended in divorce.

For her 1989 wedding to her second husband, art dealer Detmar Blow, she commissioned Treacy to make her a wedding hat and soon became his muse, a role she took very seriously. “It’s certainly a commitment, being a muse. It’s like having a baby,” Blow said in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily earlier this year.

Her collection of hats by Treacy was exhibited in When Philip Met Isabella at the Design Museum in London in 2002.

Blow is survived by her spouse and two sisters.
