After 4-1/2 years and 1,852 performances, Aida is leaving Broadway, announced the AP on May 4, 2004.

While Thomas Schumacher, president of Disney Theatrical Productions, believes it had a great run, he didn’t want to face the ”gloomy box office months” of September, October and early November again.

Original cast member Adam Pascal will return in late June for the remainder of Aida, which earned Elton and Tim Rice a Tony for Best Score.

Happily, the musical will continue to be seen around the world. Also, a number of regional theatres plan to put on their own interpretations.
