The August 19, 2004 issue of Rolling Stone has a review of Elton’s July 13 show at Radio City Music Hall.

The evening was compared to his career: ”entertaining, adventurous, wildly over-the-top and a little disappointing.” The most successful numbers were considered to be Sixty Years On, Levon and Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me.

The orchestra and singers received kudos for lifting Philadelphia Freedom ”into the heavens”, and Elton’s band was noticed for bringing its ”usual muscle” to Have Mercy on The Crimininal and Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting).

But the reviewer didn’t care for the Your Song duet with Renee Fleming, and felt that the students from Juilliard and the Royal Academy of Music didn’t have enough to do.
