An Instinctive Eye: A Selection of Contemporary Photographs from the Sir Elton John Collection has now opened at Kiev’s PinchukArtCentre. Elton, who wore red pants and a big grin, attended the official opening.
He began acquiring pictures in 1991. His collection is now regarded as one of the leading private photography collections in the world. It contains more than 5,000 fine art photographs from major vintage 20th century modernist works to the cutting-edge contemporary images. The High Museum of Art in Atlanta was the first and only institution to present highlights from the collection seven years ago.
Victor Pinchuk, a businessperson and patron of arts, pointed out that Elton himself selected the images for the current show.
There are 150 selected works by 24 contemporary photographers, including David LaChapelle, Nan Goldin and Sam Taylor Wood.
The display runs through August 12.
