Celebrity items from October 20th’s all-star Concert For New York City, including Elton John’s grand piano and an autographed guitar by Bernie Taupin, are being auctioned to benefit victims of the September 11 attacks on New York City.

VH1 and eBay have teamed up to present Auction For America to give fans a chance to own a unique piece of musical history.

The auction for Elton’s grand piano will run until November 3, 2001. Elton John and Yamaha Corporation have donated a Yamaha 6’1″ Black Grand Piano (model C3F PE) used by Elton John as well as several other atists. The piano was signed by Elton John backstage during the Concert for New York City. The value of this piano is $26,000.

The Ovation Balladeer Guitar & Case has been signed by Bernie Taupin. Included is a note, signed by Taupin, that states the following:

“To Whom It May Concern this Ovation balladeer (model no. 1711) has been a key part of my creative process for the last 10 years. In formatting and constructing my lyrics and helping give them a melodic and rhythmic flow it has been indispensable. Everything I have written in the last decade has been created with the help of this instrument including the Elton John albums The One, Made in England, The Big Picture and Songs from the West Coast. It was also used in re-working Candle in the Wind into the version dedicated to Diana, Princess of Wales.”

If you caught the AOL interview with Bernie, you will know he spoke about composing lyrics with a guitar on his lap.

Both items are an Auction for America listing. eBay will forward the winning bidder’s payment for the item to The New York State World Trade Center Relief Fund.
