Ben’s Vietnamese in Woolloongabba is one of Brisbane’s worst-kept secrets when it comes to karaoke. So it was probably fitting that karaoke fan – and Brisbane International victor – Serena Williams turned up there last week to sing just hours after defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets.
“This guy got up and said something like ‘I am going to sing this song [Your Song by Elton John] and dedicate it to the woman who just won the Brisbane International.
“She got up and helped him sing.”
Meanwhile, Biz Markie is working on a new record, and plans to include a cover of one of Elton’s compositions.
He is not yet revealing details, but has performed Bennie and the Jets in the past.
