For three years, Randy Sandke was in Benny Goodman‘s band, and found him to be a perfectionist and taskmaster, but a true improviser.

”I never heard him play the same thing twice.”

The musician was also impressed with Elton.

He tells Eltonjohnworld.com they appeared together at one of Sting‘s Rain Forest fund-raisers.

”I wrote an arrangement for the orchestra on My Secret Love that Elton sang the hell out of–his voice totally filled Carnegie Hall.”

He adds that he was impressed with what a true professional the Englishman is, and what ”a unique voice and presence he has.”

Randy should know. He has participated in live shows for around three decades and has released quite a few albums.

The jazz trumpeter/composer’s latest is The Subway Ballet, for which he penned all of the music.
