A preview of the original handwritten lyrics penned by Bernie Taupin for Your Song will be on display at Bonhams, in Knightsbridge, from today until the 14th of October.
This is in advance of Bonhams Rock and Roll Memorabilia Sale, to be held at Bonhams New York on November 19.
This comes 10 days after another auction which EJW recently previewed.
On Nov. 9th, Julienslive.com is teaming up with the Hard Rock Cafe on November 9 for an unprecedented event–The Personal Property of Bernie Taupin.
This spotlight music artist auction event celebrates the 50th anniversary of Bernie’s writing partnership with Elton. The event kicks off Julien’s two–day music auction extravaganza with Icons & Idols: Rock-N-Roll (taking place in the afternoon of Friday, November 9th, and morning of Saturday, November 10).
Highlights from the collection on offer include Taupin’s original, annotated lyrics to some of his classic creations including Candle in The Wind 1997, typed sheets with alternate last verse lines handwritten; original lyrics to I’m Still Standing; Nikita; A Love That Will Never Grow Old (the lyricist’s Golden Globe winning composition from the film Brokeback Mountain); and from the album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Gotta Get a Meal Ticket, Better Off Dead, Tower of Babel, as well as Taupin’s original notes for Philadelphia Freedom.
The auction will also feature platinum and gold record awards, clothing, photographs, jewelry, western ephemera, music memorabilia, decorative arts and more. Another highlight will be Bernie’s leather desk chair in which he wrote many of his hits over the last several decades.
