Curt Bisquera has worked with Elton, Celine Dion, Etta James, Little Richard, Huey Lewis and Belinda Carlisle, to name just a few.
He recently spoke with the Cape Breton Post, admitting that Every day I get up and go Man how cool is this, to get paid to play with all these amazing people, he said. Its an honour and a privilege always.
Having played with many of the worlds most well-known artists, Bisquera said hes often asked about his favourite musical moment.
The one that always sticks out in my mind is playing double drums with Nigel Olsen at Madison Square Garden with Elton John. That to me will always be the pinnacle of my career, he said. That was a dream come true. I think for any drummer to sit beside a drumming legend like Nigel and playing with Elton John, playing Elton John songs in front of 20,000 people thats monumental, I think, in anyones book.
A much-in-demand drummer, Bisqueras gigs vary from day-to-day: He recently did a Ford commercial with the final six American Idol contestants, for instance.
And although hes constantly touring and recording with various artists, he also makes time for his own music.
I write and produce music so I always make sure I carry a little portable studio with me so when theres down time I can record stuff that Ive done and Im working on, he said. Im always working on something.
Curt, whose parents bought him his first drum kit when he was five-years-old, was born and raised in Santa Maria, California and now lives in Los Angeles.
Bisquera will showcase his talents for a Cape Breton audience this weekend during the Cape Breton International Drum Festival, April 28-29 at the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay.
