In 1982, Greg Gorman was just beginning his career, creating campaigns and publicity shoots for such films Tootsie and Scarface, with stars from the worlds of film, television and music gracing his studio on a daily basis. It was also at this time that Greg was hired as house photographer for a campaign promoting the famous Los Angeles-based eyewear company, L.A. Eyeworks.

The ads were published as full-page bleeds in Andy Warhol‘s Interview magazine. Besides Warhol, the many celebrities captured by Gorman in their L.A. Eyeworks frames have included Elton, Meryl Streep, Iman, Johnny Rotten, Rob Lowe, Mickey Rourke, and Debbie Harry. These era-defining, black-and-white snapshots were gathered into a book a couple of years ago.

The artist will be signing copies of Framed: Greg Gorman for L.A. Eyeworks from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, February 14, at the Palm Springs Fine Arts Fair.

Prior to this, from 5-6 p.m., Gorman, who has been selected as the event’s 2014 Photographer of the Year, will be interviewed by Desert Outlook editor Will Dean. Also planned is a  special introduction by the renowned actor Udo Kier.
