A spokesperson for the Russian Orthodox Church has said homosexuality deprives Elton of creative energy.

Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin – head of the synodal department for church and society relations – said he liked the Briton’s early music, but he believed that his later work was negatively affected by his sexuality.

”I liked the music he did from the 1970s to early 2000s. Then as he rooted in homosexuality, his creative energy started running dry,” he told the Interfax news agency on Monday.

Vsevolod also claimed that’ ‘homosexuality changes a person’s psychology, his public and creative priorities.”

Elton is a vocal critic of Russia’s gay ‘propaganda’ law, and last month he expressed his desire to meet Vladimir Putin to discuss the issue.

”The president should speak to any person, including Elton John,” Chaplin declared.

”But it is better to take decisions based on the will of majority of our people, not on advice from foreign pop stars.”
