As mentioned previously, Elton will be among the admirers appearing tonight on ITV‘s Billy Connolly: It’s Been a Pleasure.
Ahead of the broadcast, the comedian, who is retiring because of complications from Parkinson’s disease, spoke about Elton.
He recalled supporting his friend during his 1976 U.S. tour. Elton called him ”Maureen,” thinking of Maureen Connolly, the tennis player.
”He still calls me that today,” said Billy. ”Davey Johnstone, the guitarist, was ‘Veronica’ because he had long hair like Veronica Lake.”
He added: ”It was a crazy tour. That was probably my peak rock star period but it was absolutely wonderful.”
