On Monday, Elton took time away from his world tour (after which he’ll stop ”for a while,” he recently announced) to attend the Mojo Music Awards.
He was inducted into the magazine’s Hall of Fame at Shoreditch Town Hall.
Mojo editor-in-chief Phil Alexander said ”his ability to conquer his own demons is legendary, and he has managed to write some of the best songs ever.”
Among other honorees included Scott Walker (”Icon), Chrissie Hynde (”Songwriter”), David Gilmour (”Lifetime Achievement”), and the Buzzcocks (”Inspiration”).
Corinne Bailey Rae, a 27-year-old from Leeds, whose self-titled debut sold almost 500,000 copies in half a year, was named Best New Act.
She mentioned that Elton was the first musician she ever saw on TV, and that she loved him for both his costumes and music.
