Some 300 luminaries from the worlds of New York fashion, art, media and high society packed MoMA on Sunday evening for a moving memorial to legendary Interview magazine editor Ingrid Sischy.

Elton, k.d. Lang and Laurie Anderson performed, and Jeff Koons, Graydon Carter, Karl Lagerfeld and Baz Luhrmann spoke in front of attendees like Donatella Versace, Calvin Klein, Anna Wintour, Julian Schnabel and Lynn Wyatt.

Elton sang Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, noting how much his late friend loved New York City.

Before he performed, the musician described Ingrid’s special place in his life.

He recalled his devastation after the death of Gianni Versace, whom he said was like a brother. “I had never had a relationship with anyone like that, ever in my life. And then Ingrid became my sister.…I had never known such an inspirational, funny, irreplaceable soul. The void in my life, I haven’t really come to terms with yet.”
