On Saturday’s Rocket Hour radio show, Elton spoke with Nakhane Toure.

The actor and musician talked about growing up as a black gay man in South Africa, saying “as much as our constitution in South Africa is really liberal, the real world is a different place sometimes. I’ve had to kick down some doors yeah.”
Nakhane also chatted about his musical influences, and how Marvin Gaye’s album Here, my Dear impacted him as a child. The two also recalled sitting on their bedroom floors as kids and listening to records.

Nakhane never thought that one day he would be talking to the musical legend.
“My mother had a compilation of Elton John’s love songs and I listened to that a lot when I was a child‚” he said. “This unsolicited kindness and support is so appreciated.”
