Over the weekend, Elton played his first concerts since suffering a bacterial infection on his way home from South America.

In Twickenham, wearing a long white jacket with a floral design along with red-tinted glasses and red silk shirt, the star referred to his illness, saying it was good to be ”back at the piano.” He also acknowledged that at one point, it was ”touch and go” as to whether he’d ”even be here.”

At Elton’s other gig in Derby, the musician wore a shimmering blue frock coat and as in Twickenham, performed an assortment of hits like Bennie and the Jets, Take Me To The Pilot, I Guess That’s Why They Call it The Blues, and Daniel, as well as two numbers from his latest album Wonderful Crazy Night, Looking Up and A Good Heart.

He also sang I Want Love as a tribute to the victims of the Manchester and London terror attacks, and told the crowd: “We live in strange times.”

This was Elton’s first appearance in Derby in 38 years.
