“Remembering George” is the title of the cover story of Rolling Stone issue 887 (January 17, 2002) which is now available, a tribute to Beatle George Harrison who died in December 2001.

The issue features tributes from Tom Petty, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Yoko Ono, Elton John, Jim Keltner, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan.

Elton John’s article reminisces about hanging out with Harrison in the late 1980s, staying up all night recording and partying, and after one all-nighter, Elton asking George to play Here Comes the Sun, and he did it.

Also, during the same period, Elton was trying to re-costume Bob Dylan in Versace shirts and jackets that Elton owned. Dylan was against this attempt. As everyone else was at the time, Harrison was cautioning Elton about his drug problem.

The article continues about Harrison’s Handmade Films and the ones Elton invested in, and some more memories of the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Elton’s former percussionist Ray Cooper was also involved with Handmade Films five years ago.
