EXCLUSIVE! Gus Dudgeon Foundation gains support from Charity Commissioners – and Elton— Posted by editor

Elton John confirmed as patron of the Foundation

Wednesday 7 April 2004 @ 6:00 – GMT

Musician Chris Hook, organiser of last years Gus and Sheila Dudgeon memorial at Abbey Road Studios in London, contacted eltonjohnworld with the fabulous news that Britains charity regulators, the Charity Commissioners, had given approval this week to the creation of The Gus Dudgeon Foundation For Recording Arts.

It means the charity is nearly ready for launch, expected in early June 2004.

The Foundation plans to have top acts gig to raise funds to support a recording studio at the University of Reading, Berkshire in England, and also will welcome donations from well-wishers.

“It has been a year since we lodged our application. The Commissioners are meticulous and we are delighted to have been registered as a charity to further the titanic name of much-missed Gus and promote young, up-coming production talent,” Hook said.

He said he was also delighted that Sir Elton had agreed to become patron of the new Foundation.

Gus and wife Sheila were killed in a freak motorway accident in July 2002, leaving the music world stunned. Elton was in shock after learning of the loss of his gifted early sound producer, whose coveted titles included the Elton John and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road albums, as well as a host of other artists recordings, including the aurally break-through Space Oddity for David Bowie.

“We plan to assist sound engineering students from British educational courses and create an annual award in Gus name,” Hook told eltonjohnworld. “We hope also to eventually assist sound engineering schools or institutions abroad, in countries where funding is especially difficult to achieve.”

The Foundations website is still in the process of being constructed. We have been advised to post online more details about when the charity will be open for donations and how you can help this worthy cause.
