A Review of The Friday Night Concert

Elton may have reached the half-way point in his Radio City Music Hall shows on July 16. But there was no indication that he was running out of steam.

The songster, wearing a gleaming silver medallion, dangling earring, red-framed glasses and long black jacket, seemed relaxed, chatting more than usual. He observed how concert tickets cost $1.70–back in the Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy days and joked about not appearing in videos.

Before Your Song, he saluted Elaine Stritch, who was in attendance. As usual, this selection went over well. But the real crowd pleasers were Levon, Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting, Philadelphia Freedom and Take Me To The Pilot. They got much of the audience out of their seats, roaring their approval.

The set list, which included the new pleasant–yet familiar-sounding–Freaks In Love, was identical to the first two evenings.
