56 Dean Street is trying to set a Guinness World Record for administering HIV tests in 8 hours at the G-A-Y Bar in Old Compton Street, Soho, London. The record setting attempt will run from 2 p.m.-10 p.m. on World AIDS Day, December 1.
G-A-Y will be donating £5 for every test performed to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. 56 Dean Street staff will be providing discrete testing and support services at nine HIV testing stations throughout the bar.
We will be using the worlds fastest HIV antibody test, which provides a result in just 60 seconds,” Dr Alan McOwan, lead consultant at 56 Dean Street (part of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust) said.
“One in 20 gay men in London has undiagnosed HIV and two-thirds of undiagnosed men think that they are negative. 56 Dean Street is now diagnosing one in five of all new HIV diagnosis in gay men in London. Testing early can add 16 years to someones life.
Registration forms will be available on the evening at the bar. Or to speed up the registration process, people can also pre-complete the form, printed in the November 24 issue of Boyz magazine, or pick it up from G-A-Y bar and G-A-Y club at Heaven the week before.
