Honky Château was released on this date in 1972.

The title comes from the 18th century French chateau where it was recorded, Château d’Hérouville. The LP reached number one in America, the first of seven consecutive U.S. number one albums for Elton.

Tracks included Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going To Be a Long, Long Time); Honky Cat; Mellow; Hercules; Amy; I Think I’m Going to Kill Myself; and Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.

Rolling Stone magazine gave it a 5-star review, calling it a ”warm, satisfying album.”
