Though he's been acting since the age of six, appearing in 30 commercials and a slew of films, including three Air Buds, a 21-year-old is now the next big thing because of his role in Transamerica, the March 19, 2006 Guardian has reported.
In it, he plays the wayward son of Felicity 'Desperate Housewives' Huffman's pre-operative transsexual, and describes it as: ''The moment I made a conscious decision to have an actual career rather than just work.' '
Kevin Joseph Zegers had to convince director Duncan Tucker he was up to the job. ''He didn't think I looked enough like a street hustler, so I went home, put grease in my hair and eyeliner to make me look exhausted. I came back, did some scenes and just kept calling him till he cast me.''
It paid off - the movie has won awards at the Golden Globes, Berlin and Tribeca Film Festival.
Huffman, who received an Oscar nomination, has nothing but praise for her co-star: ''He's the antithesis of the young, hot, jerky actor. He is hardworking, polite, kind and a team player.''
Next up, he plays Sharon Osbourne's son in It's a Boy Girl Thing, a romantic comedy by Elton and David Furnish's film company. This indulged his favourite skill - mimicry. ''I was shooting in England for two weeks and went home with a British accent.''
Transamerica will be coming to the Odeon Covent Garden, among other UK venues, on Friday, March 24.
