Elton has asked the lead singer of The Storys to be his supporting act when he plays the Charlton Athletic football stadium on June 4, the March 2, 2006 Mirror has revealed.
In fact, according to an insider, the Pinner-born musician has ''an amazing ear for spotting future hitmakers.'' After all, he championed Joss Stone, Mylo and James Blunt.
Now the latter is #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 with his single, You're Beautiful (which he performed at the reception to celebrate the Rocket Man and David Furnish's union in December). The last UK artist in this position was none other than the former Reg Dwight himself (with Candle in The Wind 1997, which spent a total of 14 weeks in the first spot).
Elton offered his congratulations, adding that both the 29-year-old's single and album are ''fantastic.''
Yet even though James won Best British male artist and best pop act at last month's Brit Awards, not everyone concurs. His Back to Bedlam record may be #5 on Billboard's 200, but at last week's NME's, it was voted worst album.
