An inside look at a pair of showbiz legends is being offered by the San Francisco Art Exchange through August 31.
Terry O'Neill's photographs are mostly from his 2008 book, Eltonography, but there are also some pictures which haven't been seen before.
O'Neill's work also includes images of Frank Sinatra. The exhibit is called Chairman of the Board, Knight of the Realm: Frank Sinatra & Elton John Back to Back.
SFAE co-owner Theron Kabrich told EJW:
''This show is unique to SFAE. No other Terry ONeill show has ever been curated in this way, that is, a Frank Sinatra/Elton John focused exhibition it was a show dreamed up by SFAE, which Terry got excited about for its contrasts (and similarities) in personalities. While they were distinctive performers, one of the things they had both had in common was their commitment to give everything they had to their audience in a performance. Loyal and enthusiastic fans are another common element in part because of Franks and Eltons own loyalty to their fans. The fact that their personas were so different makes for an even more compelling narrative.''
In all, there are forty photographs--twenty of Elton and twenty of Frank.
Terry, a friend of both men, says of Elton:
''You can't help but love him. He's a genius, an enigma, a star, possibly one of the greatest of all time.''
Gallery hours are 10-6 Mondays through Wednesdays, and 10-8 Thursdays through Saturdays.
