Elton Hasn't Forgotten About The Ukraine Boys He Wanted to Adopt

Elton told Usmagazine.com that the birth of his newborn son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was a dream come true.

"For many years we have talked about fulfilling one of our greatest wishes by becoming parents. And now this wish has been granted to us. We feel so blessed and lucky."

As previously announced, Elton and David Furnish became proud papas on December 25 with the help of a surrogate. The pair had previously tried to adopt a 14-month-old boy named Lev and his brother Artyom, who is HIV-positive, from a Ukrainian orphanage but the adoption bid fell through.

"David always wanted to adopt a child, and I always said, 'No' because I am 62 and I think because of the traveling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldnt be fair for the child," the entertainer told reporters last fall. "But having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him."

Despite the failed adoption attempt, Furnish said the pair is still trying to aid Lev and Artyom.

"The arrival of our son has done nothing but strengthen our resolve to help those two wonderful children," he declared.
